Colonel Mohandas (Retd) now lives at Chittur (Palakkad). Incidentally he is not a son of Chittur, but you may call him son-in-law of Chittur since his wife, Parvathi, hails from Cherubala Chittur. He belongs to Kunnath, Kunisseri near Alatur.
Born at Alatur (Malabar) as the third of the six children to middle class parents, Mohan did his schooling and college at Palakkad, (GPMHSS, Palakkad from 1953 to '59 and Government Victoria College from Jun 1959 to Mar 1963). An inmate of the Main Hostel during Jun 1961 - Mar 1963, he was in BSc (Physics). Was General Secretary, Men's Hostel during 1961-62, Chairman College Union in 1962-63 and a Senior Under Officer in NCCR. He was in the college Basketball team and Vice Captain in 1962-63.
Commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in Aug 1964, he had a long and eventful career in uniform including two battles - 1965 & 1971, and a varied exposure to Regimental / Extra Regimental / Staff / Command assignments in Peace, Field and High altitude all over India. He had the proud privilege of raising a new Unit in the Indian Artillery, equipped with the fierce 122mm Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers (GRAD). He also had a stint associated with youth development while he was a Group Commander in National cadet Corps in three different states - Karnataka, Rajasthan and Kerala. During this tenure he also had the unique privilege of planning the India chapter of the Indo-Canada Youth Exchange programme in his group. He also got the rare privilege of commanding the prestigious NCC Republic Day Camp at Delhi in 1991.
After hanging up boots, Parvathi & Mohan are peacefully settled at ASHIANA near Post Office, Chittur since 1999.
